We have always remained true to our mission statement since our foundation over 60 years ago: DAHW helps people who have a particularly difficult time. Here you can read about the measures we are taking to achieve our vision of a world without diseases of poverty, discrimination and exclusion.
Founded in 1957 as a leprosy relief organisation by journalists in Würzburg, DAHW is today active against poverty-related and neglected tropical diseases in many countries of the "Global South". Countless resourceful, charitable and generous people have made and continue to make success possible.
Hermann Kober, co-founder of DAHW, and Dr. Ruth Pfau, probably the best-known leprosy doctor, shaped the fate of the DAHW relief organisation like no other. Two foundations were established to honour them and to guarantee the continuation of their commitment as well as solid, sustainable development work.
DAHW works together with many regional, national and international actors to improve the health and living conditions of people in need in a sustainable way. Close cooperation with local organisations gives us access to crisis and war zones.
